It's not exactly time to be glamorizing those who preach that "greed is right, greed works."
But maybe that's the point.
Oscar-winning writer-director-conspiracy theorist Oliver Stone is reteaming with Wall Street star Michael Douglas for a sequel to their 1987 film about a young stockbroker who sells his moral soul for the promise of a big payday, 20th Century Fox announced Tuesday.
Douglas will reprise his role as ruthless corporate raider Gordon Gekko, for which he snagged the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Considering Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) may have had to go looking for a new line of work, the sequel will require new blood, and Shia LaBeouf is in talks for the role of Gekko's latest impressionable young protégé, according to trade reports.
Not surprisingly, considering both the film's directorial pedigree and the current state of the U.S. economy, the sequel (tentatively titled Wall Street 2) will be very "ripped from the headlines," per Fox spokesman Gregg Brilliant.
