AXA-owned insurance brand Swiftcover is making an embarrassing U-turn over its Iggy Pop-fronted TV commercial.
Viewers complained after it emerged that the rock star–who laughs, gyrates and urges viewers to ‘Get a life’ in the advert—was not even insured with the company.
Even worse, it was revealed Swiftcover don’t insure musicians for driving.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) banned the commercial as misleading and is today expected to uphold the viewers’ complaints.
The British advertising watchdog said the advert implied the 62-year-old singer had a policy, but Swiftcover did not cover entertainers at the time.
But last night the online car insurer said they had reversed their decision to ban entertainers.
“Iggy Pop and Swiftcover have made motor insurance interesting … sending our sales soaring almost a third,” Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com said.
“We appreciate some musicians were disappointed they could not get ’swiftcovered’, so we now insure musicians.”
