T-Mobile US racks up a million G1 lifetime sales

In the ongoing mine-is-bigger-than-yours competition between handset manufacturers and operators, especially concerning smartphones, T-Mobile US has announced it’s sold one million G1 (HTC Dream) devices since its October 2008 launch.

This isn’t hugely impressive though if compared to the 1.6 million iPhones that Apple and AT&T have sold in Q1 2009 or the 2.6 million 5800s Nokia has sold globally during the same time period. Apple sold 3.8 million iPhones globally in Q1 2009.

Perhaps more significant in terms of T-Mobile’s support for Android phones is the news that the G1 is by far and away its most popular 3G handset, accounting for around two-thirds of its 1.5 million total.

T-Mobile US will also be releasing the G2 (a Vodafone exclusive in Europe) as well as the ‘G3’ from Huawei.
