“American Idol” took a road trip to Detroit for this week’s Motown salute with R&B and soul legend Smokey Robinson guiding the contestants on their performances.
With Elvis-like hair and gray suit, Adam Lambert showed his softer side, earning a standing ovation for his smooth rendition of Robinson’s “The Tracks of My Tears.”
Unlike last week, when Adam soured the judges during “Country Week” with a strange Egyptian-inspired version of “Ring of Fire,” the 26-year-old theater actor looked like he’s stepped out of a 50’s movie poster to sing this song with tenderness and originality.
Adam proved he’s more than a showman–he can truly inhabit a song!
Kara: “One of the best performances of the night…you showed artistry on that stage.”
Paula: “I love the clean look…no nail polish tonight. You are exciting.”
Randy: “Unbelievably hot!”
Simon: “It was the best performance of the night. You tonight really have emerged as a star.”
