Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel made international headlines in November when they became the first Indian-born players to sign professional baseball contracts in the United States.
Until a year ago, these two had never even heard of the sport. Their closest experience to pitching a baseball was throwing a javelin. Now, they’re the game’s most unlikely rookies, pitching side-by-side with some of the best in the sport.
The Pittsburgh Pirates signed Patel, 19, and Singh, 20, as free agents. The pair won an audition with major-league scouts by appearing on “Million-Dollar Arm,” a reality show in their native India.
