After 15 years in the NBA, Miami Heat’s Alonzo Mourning called it quits.
The seven-time All-Star announced his retirement on Thursday, ending speculation he may return to the Miami Heat.
“At 38 years old, I feel like I’ve physically done all I can for this game,” said Mourning. “As God only knows, it’s been an amazing ride.
“It’s not a sad day. But it’s a day to celebrate. I could think of a million people right now that would love to walk the path that I walked.”
Mourning has not played since December 19, 2007, when he suffered a right knee injury during a game against Atlanta.
Here are some of his career highlights:
-Second overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft
-Runner up, Rookie of Year award
-Seven-time All-Star
-Two-time Defensive Player of the Year
-Two-time All-Defensive First Team
-Won the Gold Medal in the 2000 Olympics with Team USA
-Helped the Miami Heat win the NBA Championship in 2006
- In 15 seasons with the Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets and Charlotte Hornets, Mourning averaged 17.1 points and 8.5 rebounds.
