Photos show ‘Borneo Monster’ swimming in river

Two recently released photos of a gigantic serpent-like creature allegedly taken in a remote waterway in Borneo have sparked a huge debate about whether the images are authentic or simply Photoshopped, The Daily Mail reports.

An aerial photograph that appears to show a huge snake swimming along the Baleh river was taken by a member of a disaster team monitoring flood regions while the second picture was taken from a remote community.

While some people have suggested that the ‘snake‘ was in fact a log or a speed boat, most say that the explanation is absurd.

“A log can’t be that winding, can it?” one writer mused.

The most common accusation is that the photos have simply been manipulated on a computer. Then there’s the issue of whether the picture was even taken at the Baleh river, since most images of its waters show it to be murky brown, not the clear, dark blue water seen in the aerial photograph.

Locals who claim to have seen the ‘monster’ say they have given it the name of Nabau, after a mythical dragon-like, shape-shifting sea serpent.

Borneo is the third largest island in the world and the land mass is administratively divided between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.

The island is also known for its extensive cave systems and has a rich tradition of huge snakes called Nagas (sometimes with horns on their heads), which are often supposedly witnessed swimming in secluded waterways.
