Baseball star Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez has admitted to prior steroid use during an interview Monday with ESPN.
The New York Yankees third baseman told Peter Gammons that he took steroids while playing with the Texas Rangers from 2001-2003.
”It feels good coming out and being completely honest,” Rodriguez told Gammons.
Sports Illustrated broke the story on Saturday, claiming that the three-time American League MVP tested positive for banned substances during the 2003 season.
According to SI sources, Rodriguez’s name appears on a list of 104 players who tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball’s 2003 survey testing.
Responding to the article written by Selena Roberts and David Epstein that he failed a steroid test, Rodriguez offered his side of the story.
“Back then it was a different culture,” Rodriguez said. ”It was very loose. I was young. I was stupid. I was naive, and I wanted to prove to everyone that, you know, I was worth [a recently signed $252 million contract with the Texas Rangers].”
