Carrie Underwood was named entertainer of the year at the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, the first female act to win the honor since the Dixie Chicks did it back in 2000.
Jamey Johnson took home song of the year honors and Rascal Flatts won their seventh in a row for top vocal group.
Another winner at the event was Brad Paisley. He took the award for Top Male Vocalist. “I wish I could be there but I didn’t want to take the chance of missing the birth of our next child,” the singer, who was absent from the ceremony, said in a video message.
Hosted by Reba McEntire, the event took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The party kicked off with an ensemble performance by Brooks & Dunn, featuring Taylor Swift, Sugarland, Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts.
