Playing together for the first time in almost five years, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal stole the show in Sunday’s 2009 NBA All-Star Game.

Bryant scored a game-high 27 points, O’Neal had 17 and the former Lakers teammates were named co-MVPs as the West beat the East 146-119.

“It felt like flashbacks,” O’Neal, who played 11 minutes, said during an interview on TNT. “It felt like ‘99 to ‘02.”

The dynamic duo played together for Los Angeles from 1996-2004, winning three championships until O’Neal was acquired by Miami.

LeBron James led the East with 20 points. Paul Pierce and Dwyane Wade each scored 18.

Bryant and O’Neal embraced after being announced as MVPs, and then playfully fought over the trophy Commissioner David Stern handed to them.

“I tell you what, those two guys together, that’s a deadly combination as we all saw tonight and we have all seen in the past,” said East Coach Mike Brown.

“They are where they are right now, but if they were to stay together, no telling how many more rings they would have had on their fingers and toes,” he added.
